The four-in-hand knot

Long and narrowly- to complete a standard collar of a shirt

  • Start with the broad end of the tie on the right side 30 centimeters under the narrow end.
  • Cross the broad end of the crawatte over the narrow end and put it under the narrow side.
  • Go on by tunring the broad side till the frontside of the narrow side.
  • And now pull the broad end of the necktie through the nape loop. By doing that untight the knot in the front with the forefinger. And then put the broad end of the necktie through the hole in the knot
  • Pull your forefinger out and tight the knot carefully. By doing that hold the top of the knot with your forefinger and thumb and form the middle fold with your middle finger.
  • The knot should be situated in the middle of the shirt. And the top of the collar should be placed on the shirt itself. Now it looks perfectly done…

The Windsor knot

Broadly and triangular- for a wide cut shirt collar

  • Begin with the broad end of the tie on the right side around 30 centimeters under the narrow end.
  • Cross the broad end over the narrow end and then from the back of the narrow side through the nack loop.
  • Put the broad end to the right and move it behind the narrow end. And now move the broad end up to the right side.
  • And now direct the broad end from the front through the neck loop down to the right.
  • Then put the broad end in the front across the narrow end.
  • Pull the broad end in a right angle through the neck loop.
  • And then pull the broad in a right angle through the knot. By doing that hold the knot with your middle finger and your thumb and try to make a nice middle fold with your middle finger.
  • The knot needs to be close to the collar of the shirt. And the top of the collar needs to be on the shirt itself. This knot looks good if it is right done…

Half Windsor knot

middle width with symmetric triangle- for a normal shirt

  • Start with the broad end of the tie in the right hand around 30 centimeters under the narrow end.
  • Cross the broad end of your necktie across the narrow one and then once around it until you reach the front again.
  • Lead the broad end to the top and then pull it from the front through the neck loop.
  • Now lead the broad end to the front, Then from the left to the right across the narrow end.
  • Afterwards direct the broad end from the back through the nack loop to the top.
  • In a final step you need to pull the broad end through the front knot loop to the bottom.
  • And now as supplied before locate the knot on the top and form the middle fold with your middle finger. Well done, if you followed this direction it’s probably good looking.
